Descripción

The proposed instrument acquisition is to augment the existing award that seeks to contribute towards enabling precision munition with high maneuverability. The said instrumentation is a pressure sensitive paint system that will be used to quantify the mean and unsteady pressure fields over the shock boundary layer interaction region generated by a sharp fin mounted on a cylindrical surface. The pressure measurements will be made over a wide range of configurations that are of relevance to the award, which include fin shock interactions with canonical axisymmetric turbulent boundary layers, and non-canonical distorted turbulent boundary layers. These pressure fields will be analyzed with complementary density and velocity quantification made using planar laser scattering and particle image velocimetry techniques to unravel the flow interactions that result in the observed pressure signature in traditional and non-traditional SBLIs. The specific goals that will be addressed using the pressure measurements will include: 1. Quantification of 3D relief offered by the cylindrical surface on the SBLI pressure field. 2. Delineate the dominant flow structures that occur in the SBLI at various flow configurations and their corresponding imprint on the pressure field. 3. To unravel the mechanisms that result in the separated flow pulsations at different magnitudes of shock strength and boundary layer distortions.
